Why volunteer?

Volunteering is a rewarding way to meet new people, develop new skills, have fun and make a real difference to your community.

Anyone can volunteer. Whatever your age, skills or abilities, whether you are sighted or visually impaired, we have a volunteering opportunity to suit you.

You can devote as much or as little time as you want to volunteering. Whether it’s a couple of hours a week, a month or a year, your time and commitment could have a huge impact on somebody’s life.

So join our growing team of dedicated volunteers, and help make a difference to people living with sight loss across Cornwall.

Find a volunteering role that suits you

Volunteer drivers

We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic people to join our team of volunteer drivers. You would need access to your own car and be able to collect visually impaired people from their homes and take them to hospital appointments or social events.

We will always match you with visually impaired people living in your area and pay your mileage costs. You will be given training on how to guide visually impaired people and we will also provide you with a DBS check.

In 2015 our volunteer drivers carried out over 900 journeys between them taking clients to their clubs, events and hospital appointments.

Store Collections

Store collections are a fun and sociable way to help make a difference for people living with sight loss. You can choose whether to volunteer on a regular basis or just help out occasionally. We will always match you to a store in your area.

During 2015 there were 26 store collections, raising over £3,600 for the charity.

Hospital Information Desks

We are looking for caring, friendly volunteers to support our hospital information desks. You will provide information about our services to patients attending the eye clinics and take their contact details so that we can refer them to our clinics and advisors.

In the last year, over 3,000 visually impaired people have visited our Hospital Desks.

Location: Camborne, Helston, Launceston, St Austell and Truro

Administration

If you are looking to gain valuable experience in an office environment and develop your administration skills, you can volunteer in our Truro headquarters. The busy and varied role will include a range of tasks from maintaining databases, contacting clients and general office duties.

Location: Truro

Talks and Cheque Presentations

We are often invited along to cheque-giving presentations so we’re looking for confident and outgoing public speakers who could represent iSightCornwall at these events to collect the cheque on our behalf and give a brief presentation on the impact the donation will have for people living with sight loss. You would be briefed prior to each event and matched to events in your local area.
