Melissa Reid - visually impaired paratriathlete from Cornwall

iSightCornwall Patron Melissa Reid – British Elite Paratriathlon Squad

Melissa, born in Nottinghamshire, moved to Cornwall at the age of ten. She got into triathlon through her father Allan Reid who is also her coach. Father and daughter love surfing, swimming cycling and are surf lifesavers well known to the Cornwall circuit, also nationally and internationally.

Melissa competes in the Tri6 (visually impaired) category in triathlon. She finds cycling the toughest part of the triathlon and spends many hours training on a static turbo trainer to overcome this.

She was first selected for the British Triathlon Paratriathlon squad in 2012 having finished second at the 2011 Dextro Energy Triathlon – ITU World Championship Series London. In 2013 Melissa won both the World and European titles with guide, Nicole Walters. She came 1st in the 2015 Chicago ITU Aquathlon World Championships and is now on her way to Rio Paralympics as one of eight women in the British Elite Paratriathlon Squad.
