Using Technology to improve your life

Do you (or someone you know) have difficulty seeing to read and write? Perhaps you experience problems using technology such as computers due to sight loss? Or maybe struggle to use the latest electronic devices (such as a tablet computer) because of their size?

Assistive Technology is an enabling tool that might be able to help.
The technology might be adaptive hardware or software which can make mainstream equipment accessible to someone with a sight problem. For example, this can mean adding speech or magnification or both to a computer or mobile phone.
Or specialist equipment that has been designed for use by individuals who have a visual impairment such as video magnifiers, talking reading machines, which provide support with reading.
If you would like information about what equipment or software is available, or advice to establish whether you could benefit from using these aids, why not make an appointment to speak to our Assistive Technology Officer Rod Keat.

You could even arrange an appointment for a demonstration or one-to-one assessment.

This will offer the opportunity to discuss your visual impairment in detail and gain hands-on experience of a range of unique equipment to help address your specific needs, whether those requirements arise at home, out and about, in education or employment.

Whatever your age, background or experience, our aim is to suggest ways in which this specialist equipment can help meet your needs.

We are approachable, honest and experienced in assisting people with variable requirements, so why not get in touch for a consultation today.

You can make an appointment (service runs on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday) by contacting the Sight Centre on 01872 261110, and asking to speak to Tara our Low Vision Administrator. Alternatively you can email info@isightcornwall.org.uk or if you have a general enquiry about how assistive technology might be able to support you then ask for Rod.
