Your visit to The Sight Centre and its Facilities
The Sight Centre and its rooms have been thoughtfully designed to allow for a comfortable visiting experience. Each room has an appropriate source of light for what is required and plenty of areas for you to sit and relax. The building itself is tucked away from a busy pedestrian area within Newham Industrial Estate, however, our car park is shared with another business and is just off the main road. The building has our yellow branding over the doors and windows so we are easily recognised. The door is unlocked and a bell will sound informing our staff of your arrival. We welcome you to come in with all your queries.
Reception
The first room you will encounter during your visit to The Sight Centre is our reception where a friendly member of staff will greet you and answer any queries. There are no steps to enter the building. If you have an appointment booked, there are several seats within reception to make sure you can wait in comfort. Our reception also displays several items from our shop, please feel free to have a look around and ask about anything that is of interest to you.
If you have any further requirements please inform a member of staff upon your arrival so we can ensure your needs are met.
During your visit
Once you have informed reception of your arrival, a member of staff will lead you to the appropriate room for your appointment, this could be our Low Vision room, our Assistive Technology room, or our Assisted Kitchen. All our services and assisted toilet is located on the ground floor so there are no stairs to climb. Please see our Sight Centre Map if you would like to see the layout of the Sight Centre before your visit.
After your appointment, a member of staff will see you safely back to reception, or your method of transport.
Staff Training
All of our staff receive regular training including disability awareness training. There will always be a friendly member of staff around to help you during your visit who will understand your needs. Make sure you inform reception if you have any requirements.
Assistance dog’s welcome
Assistance dogs are welcome, a water bowl is available at the main entrance for them.
Wheelchair access
The Sight Centre is accessible for all modes of mobility, such as wheelchairs, with all service areas being located on the ground floor.
Parking
Our car park has a number of designated accessible parking spaces which are located outside of our entrance.
RoomMate
Our ground floor accessible toilet has been installed with RoomMate. This will give you an automatic audio description of what you will need and where it can be located within the restroom. There is also hand dryer within this restroom which can be quite loud.
Safe Place
The Sight Centre is a registered ‘Safe Place’. Safe Places helps people with learning disabilities/autism if they feel scared or at risk while they are out and about in the community and need support right away.
