A festive concert held in Truro has raised an amazing £900 to help blind and visually impaired people in Cornwall.

Christmas with the Cornwall Symphony Chorus, which featured international tenor John Treleaven as a special guest, proved to be another resounding success for the group as Truro Methodist Church was packed with people for the musical evening.

With Bruce Taylor compèring the evening, the chorus put on a fantastic show with musical direction from Alastair Taylor and, accompanied by Clive Ellison and Tania Lord, they delighted the audience with a range of festive favourites.

Success

But the performances were not the only successful part of the night with a very well-supported raffle and retiring collection raising £900.17 for local charity iSightCornwall.

The Chorus continued their tradition of choosing a charity to raise money for with their festive performance and this year they invited sight loss charity, iSightCornwall to take part.

Based in Truro but covering the whole of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, iSightCornwall helps people affected by sight loss regardless of their age, circumstance or condition.

Founded

Founded in 1856 to support Cornish miners, the charity now offers a range of services to blind and visually impaired people to assist with support at home, in the workplace and with hobbies and interests.

Carole Theobald, iSightCornwall Chief Executive, attended the event with three iSightCornwall volunteers; Chris, Lucy and Jenny and they were delighted by the support during both the raffle and the retiring collection.

Carole said: “We were overwhelmed by the support we received on the night and we couldn’t be more grateful to the Cornwall Symphony Chorus for choosing us and giving us the opportunity to come along.

“It was a fantastic evening, we all very much enjoyed, and I would like to say a huge thank you to every single person who chatted with us or gave us money throughout the event. Every penny will be spent in Cornwall helping someone with sight loss. I would also like to thank all of the members of the Cornwall Symphony Chorus, their chair Sally Woollacott, and our lovely volunteer collectors: Chris, Lucy and Jenny.”
